About Me

About Me

I’ve been around photography for basically my whole life. My uncle, Robert S. Moore, a gifted artist, photographer and teacher, first introduced me the joys of pinhole photography and the magic of seeing a photo print ‘appear’ in the darkroom. Later, he taught me my way around a Nikon Nikkormat SLR. (Still one of my all time favorite cameras.)

I’ve attended photo classes and workshops at the Midland Center for the Arts with S. Preston Jones and others. This is where I had the privilege of meeting William E. Smith, Jr (Bill), who over time has become a best friend and mentor. Bill has walked me through photo and darkroom techniques, opened my eyes to medium / large format photography, and alternative process photography. He has very patiently offered advice, suggestions and critiques…In simple terms, Bill has taught me most of what I know about photography.

Along the way I’ve photographed weddings, high school seniors, corporate offices and events, provided product and stock photography, created fine art and abstract photography. I’ve also had training in and worked as a graphic / web designer.

All this experience and training has helped me develop my craft and my unique vision. It has also helped me realize that photography can be within reach of almost anyone. The best way to learn? By doing. So much more can be learned during an afternoon of shooting and evaluating then in just reading a book or a blog post. Both are great, but make sure you regularly pick up your camera and photograph. Carry your camera. Take a few minutes and practice seeing or framing a photo a number of times throughout the day. Spend time and you will learn, your will advance, you will find your vision and be able to create great and impacting images.
