Photography is about seeing. It’s about communicating. It’s about expressing. It’s about sharing.
We can critique photography; we can read about photography; we can watch YouTube videos; we can dream about exotic trips and locations: These are all good, and often helpful. But to learn and to master photography, we must DO photography.
This site is dedicated to helping you learn and improve your photography. Please explore the site and find photo assignments that interest you and take you outside of your comfort zone. Sometimes we get too focused, too repetitive in our style or our subject matter. Branching out can help this.
Why assignments? Doesn’t that make it too much like a forced thing? When we get busy, it’s easy to let our photography slide to the back burner. Sometimes it’s better to plan…to have an objective. When was the last time you had a coffee or lunch with a friend? Did you plan a day and time, or just happen to meet at a random restaurant or coffee shop? (Yes, it can happen…)
Don’t be too strict or too rigid. If you plan on going to the park to try your hand at photographing squirrels and discover something else more interesting, go for it! The important thing is to get your camera out and have fun. If photography gets too frustrating or you’ve just plain had enough, take a break or switch subjects. Learning to shift subjects or angles or even just to take a moment to breathe can make all the difference in the world.
Let’s grab a few tools and tricks and go photograph.
